Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment
Occupational Therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Brooklyn
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs through a narrow passageway in your wrist called the carpal tunnel, becomes compressed or squeezed.
This compression causes numbness, tingling, and pain in your hand and fingers. It's common in people who perform repetitive hand movements, use computers extensively, or have certain medical conditions. Physical therapy can help relieve symptoms and may prevent the need for surgery.

Symptoms & Treatment
Common symptoms include: Numbness or tingling in your thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers, hand weakness and difficulty gripping objects, pain that may radiate up your arm, symptoms that worsen at night or first thing in the morning, and dropping things due to weakness or numbness.
Our treatment approach: We use nerve gliding exercises to help the median nerve move more freely, teach you ergonomic modifications to reduce wrist strain, and provide splinting recommendations for nighttime use. We also address any neck or shoulder issues that may be contributing to your symptoms. Most patients see improvement within 6-8 weeks with conservative treatment, though more severe cases may require longer management.
