Shoulder Pain (Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy / Tear) Treatment

Physical Therapy for Shoulder Pain & Rotator Cuff in Brooklyn

What is Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy?

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that stabilize your shoulder and allow you to lift and rotate your arm. Tendinopathy occurs when these tendons become irritated or damaged from overuse, repetitive motions, or age-related wear.

In some cases, the tendon can partially or completely tear. The good news: most rotator cuff issues improve with physical therapy, even if imaging shows a tear.

Symptoms & Treatment

Common symptoms include: Pain on the outside of your shoulder, especially when reaching overhead or behind your back, weakness when lifting your arm, night pain that disrupts sleep, and difficulty with daily tasks like putting on a jacket.

Our treatment approach: We start by reducing pain and inflammation, then gradually rebuild shoulder strength and mobility through targeted exercises. Treatment typically takes 8-12 weeks, and most people can return to their normal activities without surgery. We'll also address any movement patterns or postures contributing to the problem.
